Knight puts cash in bank

Scottish restaurateur Alex Knight has bought a former Bank of Scotland office in a Glasgow suburb for £500,000 - more than £200,000 above the asking price.

Estate agent Montagu Evans was seeking £295,000 for the building in Giffnock, Renfrewshire, but had expected to raise £350,000 or more.

Knight, who is married to television presenter Carol Smillie, already owns two restaurants in St Andrews with partner Simon Littlejohn - the Dolls House, serving Scottish and Mediterranean dishes, and the Mexican-themed La Posada.

Knight agreed the property had proved "very expensive" but added: "There are not so many good sites left in this country."
