An international hotelier has returned to the college where he trained to become head of its school of hospitality.
Almost 20 years after gaining his HND in hotel and catering administration, Tim Cooke has gone back to Westminster Kingsway in London to become head of the school of hospitality. It is the first time that Cooke has worked in education.
Although Cooke’s new role as a general manager is in line with his background in hotel management, he said: “In one sense, it’s a huge change – from private to public, from commercial to academic. Obviously, coming from a 24-hour industry, it’s different working in a school, which closes at the end of each day.”
Cooke will work to expand industry partnerships, develop new courses, and improve the running of the school’s 140-seat training restaurant, which is open to the public.
Beginning in 1983, Cooke worked his way up at hotels in London, Beijing, Bangkok and Koh Samui. He said: “I understand what it’s like to be a student and what industry demands of you. I’m very excited to have gone back to my roots.”
