Chef killed during takeaway order row
A restaurant manager killed a chef in the workplace after an argument over a takeaway order.
The BBC reported that Hidayet Ozden, 53, repeatedly punched chef Shahzad Shah, 56, at the Mirchi Indian takeaway in Mintlaw, Peterhead.
The attack happened after Shah questioned whether a tandoori chicken takeaway was to be kept on the bone or not.
Employees were able to restrain Ozden, who was later charged with murder but admitted culpable homicide after Shah died in April.
His sentence was deferred at the High Court in Edinburgh and bail was continued.
Shah was suffering from a serious undiagnosed heart condition at the time.
Advocate depute David Taylor told the court that the men had worked together previously before taking on the Mirchi Indian takeaway.
The prosecutor said "They have been described by witnesses as being very friendly towards each other and great friends. However, there does also appear to have been a background of tension between the two in the time leading up to the events".
After the attack, staff tried to find help for Shah and Ozden helped with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Defence counsel Ian Duguid QC said Shah's heart could not cope with what had happened, and the argument had come from "something as insignificant as a food order".
