Investigation after Pitlochry hotel damaged in blaze

The Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry, Perthshire, has been damaged after a fire broke out on New Year's Day.

Around 200 guests were evacuated from the building after the alarm was raised at just after 6am.

Although there were no reports of any injuries, several bedrooms on the top floor have been damaged extensively and other part of of the hotel including the ballroom have also suffered damage, according to thecourier.co.uk.

Police Scotland and fire chiefs have returned to investigate the cause of the fire, with thecourier.co.uk reporting that a lit firework from a Hogmanay display may have sparked the fire.

A statement from the hotel on social media said: "A huge thank you to all our guests for your patience and a well done to all Fisher's staff for getting everyone out safely.

"Also must thank all areas of the emergency services, Red Cross, Volunteers, Housing, Scotland's hotel, Atholl Palace and Pitlochry Hydro for your assistance."

He added: "Great sense of community even in hard times. Thank you, we are glad everyone is safe."

It is not clear when the hotel will reopen.
