Hawksmoor Group to close Foxlow Stoke Newington
Hawksmoor Group is to close Foxlow Stoke Newington later this month.
The restaurant will cease to trade on 14 January, according to a statement from the company.
Owners Will Beckett and Huw Gott, who have never closed a restaurant before, said they hoped to retain the vast majority of staff within the company. All suppliers will be paid and a small party will be thrown for regulars, who will also be invited to the next Foxlow soft launch.
Speaking about the decision to close the restaurant, Beckett said: "We tried something and unfortunately, despite great feedback for the food and service, it didn't work. As Gary Thomas, the Foxlow restaurant director, has reminded me, these things aren't unusual in business, even if they are very painful.
"We're not making any excuses about the wider trading environment or anything else - we made a couple of poor decisions and just didn't get everything as right here as we thankfully have at all our other restaurants. We look forward to letting people have more positive news very soon."
Stoke Newington was the second site to open under Beckett and Gott's neighbourhood-style restaurant brand. The pair chose the restaurant in part because they used to live in a small flat in the area when they opened their first restaurant together.
Foxlow expanded to four sites after restaurateur Sam Harrison sold Sam's Brasserie and Bar in Chiswick and Harrison's in Balham to Hawksmoor Group.
In October last year, Hawksmoor announced that it would open its seventh site, this time in London's Borough Market. The 140-cover venue, spread over two floors, will open in February 2017 at 16 Winchester Walk.
Beckett and Gott founded Hawksmoor in 2006 and have since grown it to six sites, with five in London and one in Manchester.
