London hotels show strong December performance against weak 2015 comparison
London hotels showed strong rate and occupancy growth during December 2016, according to preliminary figures released by data company STR.
Revenue per available room (revpar) and average daily rate grew by 14.5% to £119.41 and 7% to £149.02 respectively, while occupancy increased by 7.1% to 80.1%.
While the figures included the highest year-on-year revpar increase in the past 52 weeks (since the London 2012 Olympics) for the capital, they have to be considered against a weak performance in December 2015 when London hotels were negatively impacted by the terror attacks in Paris.
December 2016 marked London's highest actual occupancy level for any December on record. Demand for hotels increased by 10%, far outstripping the 2.7% increase in supply.
