Caribbean restaurant brand Cottons and Salon de Rhum in Notting Hill, London, has launched a series of free rum masterclasses, starting this month.
The masterclasses are aimed at industry professionals and bar staff wanting to learn more about the spirit.
Each class focuses on a specific type of rum. January will introduce attendees to Angostura Trinidadian rum; February will feature Dominican Republic’s Brugal rum; and Cuban rum Havana Club will be the focus in July.
During a 90-minute training session, guests will be given the opportunity to smell, taste and learn about individual rums, as well as learn how to mix a specific rum cocktail.
The 2pm masterclass will be aimed at industry professionals, while the evening class at 6pm will be more light-hearted and aimed at rum fans. There is also the option of a dinner which incorporates rum into all courses.
Classes can be booked here. In October, Cottons Notting Hill Gate was awarded a Guinness World Records title for the bar with the most varieties of rum – 373 – commercially available.
