Leeds hotel set to undergo £4m refurbishment
The 135-bedroom Crowne Plaza Leeds is to undergo a £4m refurbishment, one year after it closed for two months following extensive damage caused by the Boxing Day floods of 2015.
Located on Wellington Street, the hotel will be transformed with the addition of a new restaurant, bar and lounge, alongside a redesigned reception, Headlingley conference room, mezzanine level and grand staircase.
All of the bedrooms will also be refurbished, with the creation of new club rooms, suites and a club lounge.
The hotel reopened on 1 March last year after losing £1.2m in revenue during its enforced closure to allowed for a £1m refurbishment which involved a deep-clean and the replacement of 43 internal doors, 150sq m of carpet, and its entire IT, telephone, electrical and heating systems.
Lynda Coaley (pictured), general manager at the Crowne Plaza Leeds, said that the renovation will "completely transform" the hotel through a new contemporary design, layout and introduction of new technology.
"We underwent a considerable amount of work this time last year, but the majority of that work took place behind the scenes. The flood water had caused the most damage to our IT infrastructure, car parks and underground corridors, so in the first instance, we had to channel investment into those areas.
"This project is all about bringing the areas of the hotel that the guests reside and relax in to life, creating new-look bedrooms and suites, as well as a new restaurant and bar area that will benefit not just our residents, but the people of Leeds, too."
The swift and calm way in which the hotel dealt with the evacuation of the hotel and provided on-going support to guests following the floods resulted in the Crowne Plaza Leeds being presented with Extra Mile Award at the Hotel Cateys 2016.
