Norse launches £20,000 crowdfunding campaign to move venue

Two AA rosette Nordic fine-dining restaurant Norse has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise £20,000 to move it to a new site in Harrogate.

The campaign will run until 7.31pm on 7 March and is offering rewards for pledges including exclusive use of the restaurant, a bespoke breakfast menu, dinner for four and a table at the restaurant's preview night on 6 April.

The restaurant, which opened in 2014 in a shared space with Baltzersen's café on Oxford street in the centre of Harrogate, has agreed terms in advance on a lease for a restaurant space on Swan Road underneath the Studley hotel. The site most recently housed Wild and the Mirabelle. The new venue would increase the kitchen capacity, allowing more time for dish development and a wider menu.

A draft menu offers dishes such as chicken livers with hazelnut, plum and sage waffle; duck breast and leg with buckwheat, salsify, watercress and chive; and cod loin and roe with apple, grilled asparagus and smoked shellfish sauce.

Restaurateur Paul Rawlinson opened Scandinavian café Baltzersen's in 2012, and founded Norse in the same space in 2014. Simon Jewitt joined the restaurant as sous chef and took over as head chef in May 2016.
