Former GM of the Dorchester joins Aman as chief operating officer

Roland Fasel, former general manager of the Dorchester and regional director, UK, of the Dorchester Collection, has been appointed chief operating officer of global, luxury hotel group Aman.

In his new role, based in Zug, Switzerland, Fasel will oversee the operation and future growth of the company, which currently operates 31 hotels and resorts, primarily in Asia. The group also has properties in France, Montengro, Greece, Dominican Republic, the Turks & Caicos Islands and the USA.

He said that he has always admired the “pioneering spirit and uncompromisingly bespoke approach” of Aman.

“I am looking forward to leading the team and steering the brand as it continues its gentle evolution and enters into its third decade.”

He explained that his priorities will be “the continued integration of Aman Wellness, the forthcoming introduction of a new culinary concept and a robust pipeline of development projects”, alongside enriching the experience of guests.

Fasel recently left the five-red-AA-star, 250-bedroom Dorchester hotel, after being based at the property since in 2008. He previously worked as general manager of the InterContinental London Park Lane for four years and before that at the Badrutt’s Palace hotel in St. Moritz, as well as for the Four Seasons, Regent Hotels and Shangri-La groups.

A graduate of the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in his native Switzerland, Fasel has also achieved a MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, USA.

Vladislav Doronin, chairman of Aman, won a long-running legal battle last year to retain full control of the company, after former co-owner Peak Hotels & Resorts brought a claim in the High Court, London.

Aman was founded in 1988 with the launch of Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand. Its next opening will be the Amanyangyun in Shanghai, China, in the autumn.
