ALMR urges operators to speak out on business rate rises

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) is urging pub, bar and restaurant operators to speak out on the business rate rises due in April.

The association has shared a letter template via social media encouraging operators to send the letter to their local MP and "demand action on rates that are crippling businesses".

The letter calls for interim financial relief for hospitality operators and for the government to support hospitality businesses in the wake of increased wage and training levies, which take effect this spring, and an uncertain trading climate.

Chancellor Philip Hammond is considering extra funding to help independent retailers and small businesses after warnings that some could see huge increases in the rates that they pay. A 12.5% cap on business rates rises for hospitality firms in Scotland was also announced earlier this week.

Access the letter template here.
