Interesting Hotels snaps up Isle of Anglesey's Château Rhianfa

Isle of Anglesey hotel Château Rhianfa has been bought by Interesting Hotels founder Roger Hancox.

The 30-bedroom North Wales hotel will be the Hancox's sixth acquisition since 2012, joining Sudbury House in Oxfordshire, Llangoed Hall in the Brecon Beacons, the Swan at Hay on Wye, Hawkstone Park in Shrewsbury and the Poets House in Ely, Cambridgeshire, in the Interesting Hotels portfolio.

Château Rhianfa is a grade II-listed French-style château that had been refurbished by Mike and Carol Clare before opening it as a hotel in 2015. The pair, who founded Clarenco, will continue to operate properties including Solent Forts Luxury Island Hotels and Ackergill Tower.

Clarenco chief executive Suzanne Hurndall said: "We are delighted that Château Rhianfa has been acquired by Roger's Interesting Hotels group. He shares the same vision as us for this special property and we are certain he will continue the journey we have started."

The transaction was led by Smith & Williamson Corporate Finance managing director Brian Livingston. He said: "We were aware of Roger Hancox's strategy to build a portfolio of special places to stay. Château Rhianfa, with its individual character and charm, is an excellent fit for Interesting Hotels and we are pleased with the outcome."
