Millennials ordering takeaways more than once a week

Over a third of millennials order takeaway food more than once a week, racking up an average annual spend of £1,516.32 a year, according to research by PaymentSense.

The average Brit orders takeaway meals once a month, while a sizeable chunk of the population (21%) orders out once a week.

Some 35% of millennials order a takeaway one or more times a week and the vast majority, 56%, do so online rather than on the phone or in person, which proved the least popular way to grab a cheeky Chinese, Indian or other cuisine with just 23% of 18-24-year-olds being willing to visit an eatery in order to order.

Chinese is by far the most popular form of takeaway with 35% of people voting for it as their favourite, followed by Indian on 24% and pizza on 13%, while the traditional fish and chips trails in on 7%, the survey showed.

When it comes to eating out, Italian restaurants came first with 19% of the vote overall, followed by Indian on 16% and the traditional pub in third with 12%. English and Chinese restaurants tied on fourth on 10% each.

However, women seem to have a distinct bias for la dolce vita with 22% of women surveyed plumping for Italian as their favourite type of restaurant, while only 16% of men agreed. The winner for the male of the species was Indian on 19% and just 12% of women agreed, according to the research.

The research was conducted by One Poll among 2,000 Britons on behalf of card payment firm PaymentSense.
