AA appoints hotel general manager as head of hotel services

Hotel general manager Andrew Oxley has been appointed head of AA Hotel Services, replacing Peter Laigaard Jensen, who left the business last year after a short period in the role.

It is hoped that Oxley will bring a steady hand to AA Hotel Services after the departure in July 2016 of Laigaard Jensen, who was appointed to replace Simon Numphud, who worked at the AA for 18 years. Part of his new role will include the innovation of new digital products and services for the AA.

Oxley is currently general manager of the four-AA-star, 100-bedroom Down Hall Country House hotel, in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, which he joined three years ago. A hotel business graduate from Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, he was appointed to his first general manager position role at Oakley Court hotel in Windsor, Berkshire, in 2007.

He has also worked at Hartwell House, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire; Tylney Hall, Rotherwick, Hampshire; Macdonald Bath Spa, Bath; and Coppid Beech hotel, Bracknell, Berkshire.

The AA said that Oxley's "proven leadership and management acumen" places him in an ideal position to engage with the industry and to develop the inspection team.

Kirsty Lloyd-Jukes, AA membership services director, added: "AA Hotel Services is a central part of the AA's business offering and we are delighted that Andrew Oxley will be joining us to lead and develop the team. He has a great knowledge of the industry and we look forward to working together to set the direction for AA Hotel Services and take it to the next level."

Last year also saw the departure of Giovanna Grossi from her full-time role of AA group area manager. However, she has remained with the business on a part-time basis as chief advisor on awards and quality assessment.

Oxley will join the AA on 4 April.
