The management of 11 Cadogan Gardens, a luxury boutique hotel in Chelsea, London, has been taken over by the team behind Chewton Glen in New Milton, Hampshire.
Located a short walk from Sloane Square, the 56-bedroom property will sit alongside a portfolio of properties headed by managing director Andrew Stembridge, that includes Cliveden House in Taplow, Berkshire, as well as Chewton Glen, which was voted to the number one spot on The Caterer‘s Hoteliers’ Hotels Top 100 list in 2016.
11 Cadogan Gardens currently features some of London’s most flamboyantly designed bedrooms. Although a major refurbishment led by JSJ Design was completed last year, a further restoration is now underway, which will include a new dining concept to replace Tartufo restaurant, which was previously operated by chef Alexis Gauthier.
Stembridge and his team have taken over the management of the hotel – owned by Cadogan – from Luxury Hotel Partners, the management arm of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Cadogan also owns two nearby hotels: the Belmond Cadogan, which will reopen next year following a £35m restoration, and the first Costes hotel outside Paris, currently being developed at 1 Sloane Gardens and due to open in 2019.
Chewton Glen and Cliveden are owned by property investment company L+R, headed by brothers Ian and Richard Livingstone. L+R also owns the Lygon Arms in Broadway, Worcestershire, the London Hilton on Park Lane and Cumberland hotel, London, amongst a wider £9b portfolio of properties.
11 Cadogan Gardens, made up of four adjoining Victorian townhouse, became a hotel when Cadogan, the freeholder acquired the leasehold in 2012. Until then, the building, which was built by Lord Chlesea in the late 19th century, had operated as a private members’ club.
Hugh Seaborn, chief executive, Cadogan, said: “11 Cadogan Gardens is a wonderful hotel, and I have no doubt that under its new management the property will realise its full potential as one of London’s most desirable townhouse residences.”
Stembridge added: “With its distinctive style and intriguing history, 11 Cadogan Gardens is unmistakably unique and we feel it perfectly complements our existing properties. While retaining its distinctive style, we look forward to implementing the same core values that have made Chewton Glen and Cliveden world class, award-winning luxury hotels”.
