Michael O'Hare: ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth will be two-Michelin-star standard'

Chef Michael O'Hare hopes that his soon-to-open Manchester restaurant the Man Who Fell To Earth will be at a two-Michelin-star level, even if it doesn't win a star.

O'Hare was in conversation with Gary Neville, who founded GG Hospitality along with fellow footballer Ryan Giggs, at the Northern Restaurant and Bar show when he made the comments, reported in the Manchester Evening News.

O'Hare is creative director of GG Hospitality, as well as running the Michelin-starred Man Behind the Curtain in Leeds. Late last year revealed that he would be opening three in Manchester with Neville and Giggs: the Rabbit in the Moon at the National Football Museum; and the Man Who Fell To Earth and Are Friends Electric, both at the Stock Exchange on Norfolk Street in the city, where Giggs and Neville will open their second Manchester hotel.

The Man Who Fell to Earth will be more formal, with an à la carte menu in a Parisian ballroom-style restaurant. The more relaxed Are Friends Electric will be a rooftop restaurant where diners can sit at the pass and plate up dishes.

He added that thanks to his years of experience working in and eating in other restaurants, he could tell when a restaurant was at Michelin-star level.

"It could be seen as arrogance, but it's a sense of self worth. I've been to other restaurants where I've thought, ‘they're so far above me.' And I've been to restaurants where I've thought, ‘I'm better than them.'

"If you just go to be the best you possibly can be, or the best your team can be, then you know yourself that you're at that standard."

Both Neville and O'Hare were named in the Northern Restaurant and Bar (NRB) Top 50 2017 awards yesterday.
