Jamie Oliver's CEO cook off raises half a million pounds for food related good causes
Business leaders joined some of the UK's top chefs at Old Billingsgate Market last night to cook for 600 fundraisers and community workers, raising £500,000 for food related good causes.
The UK CEO Cook Off was organised by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and new charity UKHarvest, which distributes waste food to vulnerable people in the community.
Chief executives including Fiona Dawson from Mars, Ewen Venters from Fortnum & Mason and Paul Pomroy from McDonald's worked with chefs such as Angela Hartnett, Mark Hix and Atul Kochhar to create a three course meal for the diners who included dinner ladies, nurses, teachers and charity workers.
UKHarvest patron the Duchess of Cornwall was also present, helping prepare starts in both Jamie Oliver's and Angela Hartnett's kitchens.
Ronni Kahn, founder of OzHarvest, added that the CEO CookOff would make a great impact on the work of the organisation.
She said: It's all about getting a group of highly influential, motivated business leaders together with dedicated chefs and everyday heroes who are a shining example of good in the world to raise money for causes that really matter - food waste and food education."
The pair encouraged the business leaders to keep fundraising, with a target of raising over £2m through the event in the next two years.
