Jurys Inn sees 10% increase in international guests

Mid-market hotel brand Jurys Inn has reported a 10% increase in international guests in 2016, helping it reach a record five million visitors during the year.

Amaris Hospitality, the hotel group that owns and manages Jurys Inn, has spent €50m (£43.2m) over the last two years rebranding, renovating and extending the brand's portfolio.

In particular, Jurys Inn saw a 19.2% growth in Irish tourists throughout 2016, with November seeing a substantial jump (57% year-on-year).

A 17% jump in international visitors in July was driven primarily by a sharp rise in American guests in the three months following the Brexit vote.

In November, typically a low month for inbound travel to the UK, Jurys Inn saw a 19% rise in international bookings. It was in part driven by a number of established tourism markets, like the United States, Spain and Australia, as well as a number of smaller high growth markets including Poland, Iceland, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Israel.

Jurys Inn operates 36 hotels - 31 in the UK, four in Ireland and one in the Czech Republic - 29 of which are under the Jurys Inn brand and two under the DoubleTree by Hilton brand.

Jason Carruthers, managing director of Jurys Inn, said: "It was encouraging to see high levels of growth in both domestic and international visitors throughout the whole year, not just the post-Brexit era.

"Overall the UK hospitality and tourism sector has strong fundamentals, is experiencing growth and well positioned to generate further growth in the coming years."
