Avenue to host Ben Orpwood ahead of Issho opening

D&D London's Avenue restaurant in Mayfair is hosting chef Ben Orpwood for a month-long pop-up during April.

Orpwood, formerly of Sexy Fish and Zuma, will bring modern Japanese cuisine to the St James's restaurant during the residency, ahead of the opening of D&D's first Japanese restaurant, Issho.

The new rooftop restaurant and cocktail bar in Leeds will open later this spring with Orpwood at the helm.

The menu at the Avenue pop-up will draw on Orpwood's Japanese cooking background and preview several Issho dishes, such as smoked steak tartare with nashi pear and sweet potato crisps, and roast diver scallop with pickled apple and jalapeño.

Orpwood initially joined Japanese restaurant Zuma as a chef de partie in 2005, working on the launch of the brand's Istanbul and Dubai outposts, before spending five years with Tokyo Restaurants in Sydney. He returned to London in 2015 to work as executive chef of Asian restaurant Sexy Fish before moving back to Zuma as executive chef.
