Sopwell House appoints Thomas Garlich general manager

The four-AA-star Sopwell House in St Albans, Hertfordshire, has appointed Thomas Garlich as its new general manager.

He replaces Derek Hiscoke, who has been general manager of Sopwell House for the past two years.

In his new role, Garlich will oversee the 128-bedroom hotel, its 16 Mews suites, two restaurants, cocktail lounge and conservatory bar, along with the conference and wedding business within the 19 meeting and banqueting spaces. He will also be responsible for the expansion of the hotel spa, which will commence later this year.

He joins Sopwell House from Luton Hoo Hotel Golf and Spa, where he was resident manager for eight years. He started his career as a chef apprentice in Germany, before moving to the Pink Beach Club in Bermuda for eight years, starting as food and beverage manager and moving up resident manager.

Sopwell House belongs to AB Hotels and is a sister property to the Arch London hotel.
