KFF wins £6m contract with DFDS

Independent foodservice wholesaler Kent Frozen Foods (KFF) has won its largest contract to date with Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS.

The contract, valued at more than £6m per annum, will see KFF supply produce for five million passengers and crew members on the company's ferry routes from Dover to Calais and Dover to Dunkirk.

KFF will be supplying all DFDS' produce requirements including fruits, vegetables and fresh meat, across all product temperatures. Produce will be delivered daily to the ships, with a strict window of 18 minutes per delivery to minimise the impact on the food while at the port.

Forming part of a competitive tender pitch, KFF won the contract based primarily on its product offering, with a strong focus on provenance.

Neil Doorley, onboard commercial director at DFDS, said: "As part of our core values, it was important to us that we started to use a regional UK wholesaler rather than a national or European partner. Choosing KFF has enabled DFDS to support a chain of UK businesses, farmers and producers.

"We are proud to be purchasing a host of British made products, including pies, eggs and a delicious range of Yorkshire ice cream. This also has a benefit to our own customers, who value quality British produce on board our ships. DFDS chefs and staff are looking forward to visiting KFF manufacturers to learn more about the origins and manufacturing methods behind their produce."

Chris Beckley, managing director at KFF, added: "We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to supply a high profile service company such as DFDS, which is testament of where we are as a business. We went up against some of the UK's leading national wholesalers, representing a significant shift in perceptions, as we become a serious contender to the nationals."
