Amadeus revenues increase by 20% thanks to NEC and ICC

Caterer Amadeus has reported revenue of £42.2m in its financial results for the year 2016/17, a 20% increase from £35.2m the previous year.

EBITDA also increased 45% to £9.6m over the same period. The company, part of the NEC Group, attributes the "record successes" to its home venues, with EBITDA increasing by nearly a third (29%) at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and over a quarter (26%) at the International Convention Centre (ICC), both in Birmingham.

It also reports growth in the company's external venues business over the last year. 2016/2017 saw Amadeus secure a record amount of new contracts totalling over £30m. This included a £4.4m contract with the East of England Arena and Event Centre, a £3m contract with Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, and a £5m contract with Compton Verney art gallery.

It also won two major contracts in Northern Ireland, including a £16.3m contract to provide catering and hospitality services for Belfast Waterfront and sister venue Ulster Hall, and a further four visitor attractions as part of a £12m contract with Belfast Zoo, Belfast Castle, Malone House and the Stables coffee shop in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.

Managing director Kevin Watson, who took on the directorship in 2012, said: "This is an exciting time for Amadeus as we continue to expand at pace and is testament to the unique and brilliant team we have.

"Investments in new technology to improve the customer service across our venues and extensive staff training and development has played a key role in the company's growing success. We are set to expand further in the coming year with an exciting pipeline on the horizon."
