Alistair Sandall steps down as commercial manager of the AA

Alistair Sandall, commercial manager of the AA Hotel & Hospitality Services, is to leave the organisation after nearly 11 years with the business.

His successor is yet to be announced. Meanwhile his work heading up the consultancy and training role within AA Hotel Services will be overseen by Andrew Oxley, who was appointed as head of hotel and services earlier this month, from his previous role as general manager of Down Hall Country House hotel in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

Sandall's departure is the latest high profile member of the AA management team to leave the organisation in the past 18 months. Simon Numphud left his role as head of hotel services at the end of 2015, having spent 18 years with the guidebook publishers. The tenure of his replacement, Peter Laigaard Jensen, was only four months.

Last year also saw the departure of Giovanna Grossi from her full-time role of AA group area manager. However, she has continued to work for the business on a part-time basis as chief advisor on awards and quality assessment.

Sandall joined the AA in 2006, having previously worked as a general manager with Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, Thistle Hotels, and Hanover International Hotels and Clubs. He also spent three years with Southern Sun Hotels in South Africa.

Sandall is to remain in the hospitality industry and will be undertake work for the Institute of Hospitality.
