CH&Co's Alison Gilbert to be hospitality chair for Institute for Apprenticeships
CH&Co HR director Alison Gilbert has been appointed route panel chair for catering and hospitality by the Institute for Apprenticeships.
The route panels are made up of industry experts and are responsible for setting the standards of knowledge, skills and behaviours needed by employers for every occupation in England.
The chairs will be expected to lead their groups in reviewing and recommending apprenticeship standards and assessment plans and advising on funding levels on behalf of the institute.
A panel of apprentices was also appointed to advise the board.
Commenting on her new role, Gilbert said: "We all have a responsibility to promote careers in this fantastic industry of ours.
"It's all about giving something back and being able to work with other industry specialists to ensure that the development we offer people in our sector is fit for now and the future at an exemplary standard with sound testing that ensures that, as an employer, we know that an apprenticeship has a certain standard wherever it's taken.
"Developing our people at every level is critical, giving them career routes and retaining people in sector. We know this sector is growing and there are plenty of opportunities but an overall shortage of skilled staff. Apprenticeships give everyone an opportunity, be that the budding chef or the seasoned manager who aspires to be a great leader.
"From an employer perspective there is great opportunity for a developed workforce within the levy payment and by topping up via the 10% route. So why wouldn't you develop people and keep them in your business?"
"Our panel of apprentices is something I am particularly proud of - a deeply impressive group of individuals who will ensure the needs of apprentices are truly reflected in the development of the apprenticeship programme."
