April was record-breaking month for revpar in London hotels

London's hotels enjoyed a record-breaking revenue per available room (revpar) figure for April of £119.40, up 10.3% year-on-year, according to preliminary data published by STR.

Occupancy and average daily rate (ADR) also increased, up by 3.7% to 83% and 6.4% to £143.92 respectively.

STR analysts highlighted two events in the capital - In-Cosmetics Global (4-6 April) and the Natural Stone Show & Conference (25-27 April) - which resulted in multiple days of 95% occupancy and ADR above £160.

The 6.6% increase in demand for hotels during the month was comfortably ahead of the 2.8% increase in supply.

STR's prediction that the timing of Easter in late April would have a detrimental impact on the capital's hotel performance failed to materialise.

The latest STR figures follows the announcement last week that London posted its highest revpar figure for any first quarter on record, up 11.5% on Q1 2016 to £101.50.
