Birmingham's £1m Lobster Peninsula restaurant closes suddenly

Six months after opening, seafood restaurant Lobster Peninsula in Birmingham has suddenly closed.

Owners William Sui and Rob Yang invested almost £1m in the renovation of the former Futurist cinema building on John Bright Street, before opening the 88-cover restaurant in November 2016.

However, the restaurant broke the news on Twitter that it would be shutting its doors.

The nine-strong kitchen brigade was led by head chef Saming Saetang while Nuno Peres ran front of house.

The top floor of the restaurant housed a 200 sq m function room which opened as a nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights until 3am.

In January, the restaurant received a 2/5 star review from local newspaper the Birmingham Mail where Sanjeeta Bains said the restaurant was so quiet it was like she "had stepped onto the set of the horror film the Shining".

No one from Lobster Peninsula was available to comment when contacted by The Caterer.
