Tom Kerridge to launch Gary Usher's Wreckfish

Chef-owner of the Hand & Flowers in Marlow, Tom Kerridge, is set to launch Gary Usher's latest restaurant Wreckfish in Liverpool later this year if its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is successful.

Usher launched a £200,000 crowdfunding campaign earlier this month to turn his Wreckfish pop-up into a 100-cover permanent restaurant in Liverpool's Ropewalks area, joining his other restaurants Sticky Walnut in Chester; Burnt Truffle in Heswall on the Wirral; and Hispi in Didsbury, Manchester.

Tickets went on sale for the six-course launch meal with Kerridge via the Kickstarter campaign for £150 per head, with all 74 places selling out within 15 minutes and raising over £11,000, with the total now topping £140,000.

The campaign has also seen support from Duck & Waffle's Dan Doherty, who will be hosting the restaurant's first brunch service on 5 November. Additional guest chef nights are set to be revealed during the final week of the campaign.

If successful, this will be the largest ever amount raised in the UK via Kickstarter for a restaurant.

Usher said: "The support we have received for Wreckfish has been incredible, not only from people who know us, but from the entire industry. I can't believe that Michelin-starred chefs are offering to cook for us just so we can make Wreckfish a reality. Tom Kerridge coming to cook in our bistro that hasn't even opened yet is a huge thing for us and the whole region. I honestly can't think of a better way to launch the restaurant."
