Britons willing to pay more for quality meat
A new survey from catering butchers Danish Crown has revealed that British diners are prepared to pay more for meat dishes in restaurants.
Over two thirds of people surveyed are prepared to pay more for a dish out-of-home if it uses meat that is high in quality and fully traceable in origin.
They are also becoming increasingly more interested in new premium meats like dry-aged pork and matured steaks.
More than half of the respondents said they would pay more for specially matured meat. The drive in popularity has been credited to Britain's love of gastro-dining and food trends, like barbecue and street-food.
Allan Hansen, foodservice director, Danish Crown UK said: "British people have always been a nation of meat lovers, but expectations have changed and they now demand high quality, fully traceable meats on menus in restaurants. The good news for caterers is they are also prepared to pay more for the best cuts too.
"Our survey reveals taste and quality are the two most important factors for consumers when eating meat out-of-home and two thirds of them say it is important the meat served in restaurants is from an established and accredited butcher."
