Rola Wala to launch first permanent London site this summer

Rola Wala's first permanent London site is heading for Brushfield Street in Spitalfields in early July this year.

Following Street Feast residencies and the brand's first permanent site, Leeds Trinity Kitchen, founder Mark Wright is now bringing his Rola Wala concept of healthy ‘everyday Indian' fast food to a permanent site in the capital.

The brand is also set to open in Westgate Oxford in October this year.

Rola Wala offers a range of gluten-free, low-carb, and vegan options, with no dish more than 500 calories, starting at £5.95.

Meaning ‘man that rolls' in Hindi, Rola Wala's menu is inspired by Wright's travels around India. Guests can choose either sourdough naan; hot brown rice khicheree; masala black bean noodles and charred broccoli; or cauliflower rice and kale bowl, before adding a ‘twisted Indian' filling and fresh chutney.

The menu will always have an equal amount of meat and vegetarian/vegan options; including vegan red dal made from beetroot, coconut and channa dal, and Keralan black chickpea, a mix of black ‘kala chana' chickpeas, coconut, sweet potato, pineapple, and spices. Meat dishes include Nagaland lamb, charred chicken and Bengali spiced beef.

Guests will be able to choose their own spice level with Rola Wala's range of fresh chutneys, alongside a range of soft drinks including Rola Wala's mango, lime, and turmeric sodas made in collaboration with Square Root London, plus a selection of craft beers and wines.

With a design that references Indian roadside diners, the Brushfield site will have a vibrant, upbeat feel, with timber cladding, pendant lighting, scaffold polls, and metal shelving stocked high with spice jars. The focal point will be a large service counter where guests can customise their food, while two rows of high metal stools will provide seating for those wishing to eat in.

Rola Wala Leeds partnered with One Feeds Two, a charity that donates a school meal to a child living in poverty for every naan roll sold, and will continue to support the charity at the Spitalfields location.
