Billesley Manor hotel sold off guide price of £8m plus

The four-AA-star, 72-bedroom Billesley Manor hotel, near Stratford-upon-Avon, is to be managed by Bespoke Hotels after being sold to an unnamed overseas investor.

Located within 11 acres of grounds, the Grade II-listed 16th century manor was put on the market in April 2016 as part of the 10-strong Hotel Collection. It was marketed with a guide price in excess of £8m.

Billesley Manor features a library in which Shakespeare is reported to have written one of his plays, a 11th century church and a 100-year-old topiary garden.

Lone Star acquired the Hotel Collection in June 2014, when the group was made up of 21 properties. A year later it announced that it would dispose of the individual properties within the group in order to focus on hotels operating under a variety of brands such as Hilton, Doubletree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn from Hilton Worldwide, Mercure and MGallery from AccorHotels, and Jurys Inn under the umbrella of newly created company, Amaris Hospitality.

Last month it was rumoured that Amaris Hospitality is now considering selling over one half of its portfolio of nearly 70 hotels, including the 36-strong Jurys Inn chain, for a rumoured £1b-plus.

The sale of Billesley Manor, which was handled by Savills, leaves just the 148-bedroom Shrigley Hall hotel, golf and country club, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, to be sold from the Hotel Collection portfolio. A sale is expected shortly.

Martin Rogers, head of UK hotel transactions at Savills, said: "The UK regional hotel market continues to attract both overseas investors and high net worth individuals looking for smaller lot sizes and long-term income."
