Premier Inn to open at Fareham shopping centre
A new 84-bedroom Premier Inn hotel is set to open at Fareham shopping centre in Hampshire after the centre's leaseholder, Roubaix, was granted planning permission by Fareham Borough Council for the property.
The new hotel, which has been pre-let to Premier Inn on a 25 year lease, will be built on top of existing retail units facing Osborn Road, with bedrooms over three upper storeys with restaurant and reception space between the upper accommodation levels and the ground floor retail.
Work is scheduled to start in late 2017. The hotel is expected to open in late 2018/early 2019.
Derek Griffin, head of acquisitions (London, South and East) at Premier Inn, said: "Fareham town centre is a location where we've been wanting to invest for some time so this is excellent news. This application is a really effective way to bring a new Premier Inn right into the heart of the town centre and we're looking forward to getting going with the scheme and opening our doors for guests as soon as possible."
Chris Beckerman, managing director of Roubaix Group, added: "This is great news for Fareham and paves the way for valuable investment into the shopping centre and the town as a whole. During our consultation on the application there was strong support for the proposals and I am therefore delighted with the committee decision."
