Cottons launches in Shoreditch

Caribbean restaurant brand Cottons has this week launched a rhum shack on Curtain Road, Shoreditch.

The 70-cover shack follows the success of the Camden and Notting Hill sites and serves a variety of street food and stock over 230 different rums.

Dishes include ebony wings served with char-grilled pineapple; crayfish and lobster mac n cheese; trio of fish or veg fritters with coconut chutney; grilled red snapper with hickory and piemento, covered in Cottons' homemade jerk sauce; oxtail and bean stew; the Chaguanas dinner plate (vegetable curry, black eyed bean and callaloo and spinach fritters); curried mutton with rice n peas; passionfruit souffle with spiced crumbs; and Cottons Cake Trilogy (rum cake, carrot cake and ginger cake served with rum dulce de leche).

Food will also be available to take out or have home delivered by both Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

Drinks include: Cottons Punch (a blend of Wray and Nephew overproof rum, orange, guava, pineapple juice and grenadine); Sorrel Sling (homemade sorrel squash, fresh lemon juice, Chambord and topped with soda); and Killer Doppi (four different rums, apricot liqueur, curacao, orange, pineapple and lime juice).

A small list of wines, champagnes and beers will also be on offer.

The shack will be filled with wooden tables flanked with lavender, muted olive-green and pale ochre velvet cushioned wooden chairs; wooden shuttered windows; bamboo; fish nets; oars; and an artist's mural depicting a Caribbean village.

Chris Singam opened the first Cottons site in Camden in 1985. Cottons Notting Hill followed in 2016 and currently holds the Guinness World Records title for the bar with the most varieties of rum commercially available with 372 rums.

Cottons Vauxhall is planned to open in summer 2017.
