Handmade Burger Co falls into administration
Restaurant group Handmade Burger Co has fallen into administration and closed nine of its 29 restaurants.
Paul Masters, Conrad Beighton and Julien Irving of Leonard Curtis Recovery were appointed joint administrators of the Sargeant Partnership and Hand Made Burger Company yesterday (6 July), which operate as one business under the name Handmade Burger Co, run by the Birmingham-based Sargeant family.
The remaining restaurants continue to trade as normal under the joint administrators' control, who hope to find a solution which will enable as many jobs as possible to be preserved. Handmade Burger Co's website and social media accounts all appear to have been taken down, and it was not confirmed which sites had closed and which remain open.
The joint administrators intend to seek approval from the companies' creditors for a Company Voluntary Arrangement, an agreement between a company and its creditors regarding repayment of all or part of its debts over an agreed period of time. If this cannot be achieved, the joint administrators will seek to find a buyer for the business.
Handmade Burger Co opened its first restaurant in 2006 at Brindleyplace in Birmingham, and had plans to open more sites in 2017 and 2018.
