Quantum Care launches Food For Thought initiative

Quantum Care has launched a Food For Thought initiative at a care home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, which specialises in residential dementia care.

Greenacres care home in Hatfield hosted a guest chef event which aimed to provide Quantum Care with clearer feedback on residents' likes and dislikes.

Chef Phil Fernie from catering supplier Walter Clarke prepared a range of sweet and savoury dishes in the home's kitchen for residents to trial.

The residents scored the dishes served and afterwards the most popular dishes were chosen to be featured on the basic menu across all 26 Quantum Care homes.

The most popular of the dishes served on the day was the brie, bacon and date filo parcels. Other popular dishes included a mushroom and spinach tart and a lemon tart.

Donna Steeden, support services manager for Quantum Care said: "It's the most genuine feedback we can get, I go along to these sessions with other members of the services team and we see it for ourselves so we know what works on our residents menus and what doesn't, and there's no better way of giving our residents ‘choice' than that."

Quantum Care hopes to continuously improve its menus by holding regular feedback sessions.

Founded in 1992, Quantum Care provides care services for more than 2,000 older people, and employs over 2000 staff. The company has 26 purpose built Care Homes across Hertfordshire, one home in Harlow, Essex, and two homes in Bedfordshire.

Some of these Homes also provide an operating base for other services, such as Respite Care, Day Care, Intermediate Care and Enablement.
