Club Gascon closes for refurbishment

Michelin-starred French restaurant Club Gascon in Smithfield, London, has announced it will be closing for renovation, with the final service taking place tonight.

Club Gascon, formerly Lyon's Tea House, was founded in September 1998 by Pascal Aussignac and business partner Vincent Labeyrie. It won Best Newcomer at The Catey Awards in 1999 and was awarded a Michelin star in 2002.

Aussignac comes from Toulouse in the South West of France. He trained with French chefs such as Gerard Vie, Alain Dutournier and Guy Savoy.

He said: "Club Gascon is where our brand's story began. I am committed to restoring the restaurant to its original beauty, ensuring that it retains its rightful place as one of the best and finest restaurants in the country. This is such an exciting development and I cannot wait to share the updated look and the new concept with you."

The restaurant within the Grade II-listed building will reopen this autumn. The group's other restaurants, Cigalon, Comptoir Gascon, and Le Bar will remain open during this period.
