Dogs owner David Ramsden opens the Fat Pony in Edinburgh

Edinburgh restaurateur David Ramsden has opened a new wine bar in the city offering an extensive drinks menu alongside a selection of small plates.

The kitchen is being headed up by Scott Wyse, who has moved from Ramsden's sister site the Dogs, which has held a Michelin bib gourmand since opening in 2008.

Wyse is joined in the kitchen at the Fat Pony by chef Rose Gregory, serving a selection of small plates, bowls and charcuterie to diners in the 28-cover restaurant. Dishes include pork belly, sesame, soy, ginger and Asian slaw (£6.50); rabbit terrine, pistachio, salad and toast (£6); and wood pigeon, celeriac, apple, black pudding cider beurre noisette (£7.50).

The extensive wine list is dominated by the old world along with a selection of orange wines, and a range of Champagne and cocktails.

Head chef Scott Wyse said: "We're using inspiration from around the world informed by our travels, though using Scottish produce where possible. It will be big flavours on small plates."

The Fat Pony on Bread Street in Edinburgh is open from 4pm to 12am Monday to Sunday.
