JD Wetherspoon announces new initiative to support farmers

Pub company JD Wetherspoon is supporting Welsh farmers in its latest campaign.

From today, new menus will launch across the group's 50 pubs in Wales. It will showcase a range of food and drink from suppliers across Wales as well as meat from Welsh farms.

The meals include Welsh Dragon sausages and mash (three Welsh pork, leek and chilli sausages, Caerphilly cheese and leek mashed potato, peas, caramelised onion and Brains SA ale gravy); Welsh beef and ale pie; and Welsh Celtic Pride beef cottage pie.

The Welsh sausages are Celtic Pride farm assured pork.

As well as a range of real ales from Welsh brewers, including Evan Evans Brewery and Glamorgan Brewery, the pubs will be serving a choice of craft cans, bottled cider and spirits from Welsh producers.

Gwynt y Ddraig Old Crow Cider produced in Pontypridd, Penderyn whisky and Brecon gin, both produced in Brecon Beacons will also be on offer.

The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, visited the Wyndham Arms in Bridgend yesterday to meet with some of the suppliers ahead of the menu launch.

He said: "I am extremely proud of Wales' high-quality food and drink, which is enjoying a growing reputation for excellence around the world. It is great news Wetherspoon's will be showcasing food and drink from suppliers right across Wales."

Wetherspoon's regional manager for West Wales, Richard Bond, said: "We are proud to serve a standalone menu in our pubs offering the best of Welsh food and drink, alongside our regular menu.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for our pubs to offer superb Welsh-produced products."
