Staycity to open second Wilde aparthotel in Edinburgh

Staycity has announced that its second Wilde aparthotel will be in King's Stables Road in Edinburgh.

The Dublin-based aparthotel operator will be opening its first aparthotel under the design-led Wilde brand on London's Strand this year. The name is inspired by 19th-century Irish writer Oscar Wilde.

Wilde Aparthotels Edinburgh will offer apartments, a lounge, café, and gym facilities, as well as a gallery and exhibition space open to the public and aimed at supporting local artists.

The site, which was formerly used for medieval jousting tournaments and was home to the royal horses, is now owned by the City of Edinburgh Council. It had been vacant since 2009, before which it was offices and storage space. While most of the scheme is new build, parts of the medieval wall will be incorporated into the new structure.

The development, which will be overseen by Peveril Securities and Campus Development Management, forms part of a mixed-use scheme. Work is scheduled to start at the end of 2017, with the apartments expected to open in the latter part of 2019.

Barry Hickey, group development director at Staycity Aparthotels, said: "The historic King's Stables Road provides an amazing setting for our latest venture."

The Wilde concept is planned to be rolled out across gateway city centre locations throughout Europe, with initial sites in London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Berlin.
