Piri Piri Express aims to open nine sites in 2018

Piri Piri Express, a chicken restaurant chain in Merseyside, is set to grow from three to 12 franchised sites in the coming year, following an investment from the Know Collection.

The Portuguese restaurant group has outlets in Aintree, Maghull and Southport and plans to expand into towns and cities across the north west and the wider UK.

The food outlet chain will become part of the Know Collection, which includes healthy restaurant Love Thy Neighbour and the Know Hospitality Academy, which offers traineeships to those who are not in education, employment or training.

Steven Hesketh, chief executive of Know Collection said: "Convenience, speed and great taste are at the core of what every millennial wants and Piri Piri Express epitomises what is great about this type of offering."

Paulo Alves, founder of Piri Piri Express said: "If you were to take the trajectory of what we've done in the last three years and fast-forward, that would not be misleading in terms of what we want to do in the next five years. It's a line of good, consistent growth and we are thrilled to not only to have the investment but the guidance from Steven and his expert team to help us on the journey."

Know Collection now successfully employs more than 120 people and turns over around £6m a year within 14 businesses.
