Murchison quits Chewton Glen

Alan Murchison has left his job as executive chef of Chewton Glen country house hotel after just three months.

He joined the five-star hotel in New Milton, Hampshire, in September following the abrupt departure of its former head chef, Pierre Chevillard. It is not known where Murchison is now.

Andrew Stembridge, managing director of the hotel, said that Murchison’s departure was a mutual decision: “Alan’s skills were not compatible with the size and diversity of the operation at Chewton Glen and that is why he is no longer with us.”

His replacement at the 58-bedroom hotel with 120-seat dining room is Luke Matthews. Matthews had been senior sous chef at Chewton Glen for more than 10 years.

Before Chewton Glen, Murchison was head chef at the one-Michelin-starred restaurant L’Ortolan in Shinfield, Berkshire.
