The Institute of Hospitality publishes new Management Standards guide

The Institute of Hospitality (IOH) has released its new Management Standards in order to educate managers on "recruitment and retention of talent" during tough times within the industry.

The Management Standards is aimed at individuals; employers; human resource professionals; managers and leaders; educators and training providers and careers advisors.

It consists of three sections; personal and professional skills, managing people and operations and managing the business.

The guide aims to aid recruitment, training, retention, career planning and progression while also enabling individuals and organisations to achieve success and professionalism in their hospitality management career.

Authors Ruth Asker-Browne and Phil Raynsford hope that aspiring managers use the standards at the start of their career to "see the key areas they need to master to be able to do their job well".

"They can then use them to investigate other areas of the business, to identify opportunities to build new skills and knowledge and to help improve in their role or help to plan for promotion or a career move." They added.

Peter Ducker, chief executive of the IOH said: "Career progression is not only essential for the good health of every organisation but also a key reason why people choose a career path in the first place. Our new Management Standards clearly define routes into and upwards in the many different areas of our great industry. At a time when recruitment and retention of talent is more important than ever before I believe that this publication is both timely and invaluable to both businesses and to individuals."
