Palomar owners to open fourth London venue

Owners of the Palomar in Soho are to open a fourth venue in London following the acquisition of the Blue Post pub in Rupert Street, Soho.

Zoë and Layo Paskin, who say they only open the kind of places they would like to go themselves, aim to turn the Grade II listed building in to a three-tiered pub, cocktail bar and restaurant expected to open on 5 December.

Alongside the Palomar, it will join the Barbary and coffee house Jacob the Angel which are based on the same site but run separate operations in Covent Garden.

The Mulwray bar will launch on the first floor, while the ground level will remain as a pub. The Mulwray will be decorated with dark velvets, marble and satin brass. It will also feature a wood burning stove.

Downstairs, the basement has been lowered to house an informal 11-cover restaurant where diners will sit together on a single kitchen counter.

Evelyn's Table will be headed by Nacho Pinilla, executive chef of the 24-cover Barbary, who will create a daily changing Modern European menu as well as a bar menu for the ground and first floor.

The Blue Posts closed in October after 12 years in operation. The building has existed as a public house since 1739.

In a statement the owners said: "It is a rare privilege to be the custodians of a building that has been a place of hospitality for over 275 years. We are proud to continue this long tradition, but also thrilled to be bringing some of our own identity to it."

The Paskins previously ran the End and AKA nightclubs in London. They launched their first restaurant the Palomar in 2014. The Barbary opened last year offering grilled and baked dishes "from the Barbary coast to Jerusalem".
