Gordon Cartwright leaves Eriska for MacDonald Hotels and Resorts role

Former AA inspector Gordon Cartwright has left his role as general manager of the Isle of Eriska hotel and spa off the west coast of Scotland, in order to take up a post at MacDonald Hotels and Resorts.

Cartwright will become group quality director at MacDonald, which has more than 40 hotels across the UK and Ireland.

The company confirmed Cartwright's appointment but declined to reveal anything further about what his job entails or when he will start.

Cartwright was at the Isle of Eriska for around 18 months, having joined in April 2016 following former owner Beppo Buchanan-Smith's decision to sell to Hong Kong-based business Creation Gem. In August this year, it was announced that the operation of the hotel would be taken over by the Inverlochy Castle Management Company (ICMI) but that Cartwright would stay on as GM.

Until September this year, he also ran consultancy firm Visionary Dining, and has held a number of other general manager positions at the Old Inn, Crawfordsburn in Northern Ireland, the Wordsworth Hotel and Spa in Grasmere in the Lake District, and the Gilpin hotel, also in the Lake District, since his departure from the AA in 2012.
