Former Little Chef owner puts in bid for Byron

R Capital, a former owner of Little Chef, has placed a bid for burger chain Byron which recently closed four of its sites around the country.

Sky News

Last month, Byron - which is currently owned by private equity firm Hutton Collins - hired professional services firm KPMG to conduct a strategic review of the business and advise future ownership options.

Sky News reports that "information distributed to potential bidders" shows that 13 of Byrons sites are categorised as ‘exit immediately' for being loss-making or marginal with a further dozen marked for review.

Byron currently operates more than 70 sites across the UK. It was purchased by its current owner for £100m in 2013.

In September this year, Simon Cope was promoted from managing director to chief executive of Byron Hamburgers, following the departure of Andy Manders in May.
