Indian Accent London to open this week

The London outpost of chef-restaurateur Manish Mehrotra’s Indian Accent restaurant is opening in Mayfair this week.

Owned by Ekatra Hospitality Ventures, a subsidiary of Old World Hospitality Group, Indian Accent London will open on 14 December on Albemarle Street. It follows the original restaurant in New Delhi, which opened in 2009, and the New York outpost, which opened last year.

The restaurant will serve reinterpretations of traditional Indian dishes using global techniques and influences, with dishes such as soya keema, quail egg and lime leaf butter pao; and Kashmiri morels, walnut powder and Parmesan papad.

The menu will also highlight rarer Indian foods such as makhan malai, a medieval dish made of aerated milk infused with saffron. The new London restaurant will also feature local produce and creative spins on British classics such as black pudding, stuffed inside kulcha flatbreads.

A nine-course tasting menu (£80) will be available, along with a three-course (£55) and four-course (£65) prix-fixe menu.

The cocktail selection will include London specials, such as an Albemarle chai punch – a milk punch featuring Batavia Arrack, Earl Grey, and virgin Amaro. There will also be a large selection of rare whiskies, and whisky flights offered along with wine pairings for the tasting menu.

Set across two floors, the restaurant, designed by Design LSM, has reimagined materials familiar in Indian architecture, combining brass, marble and combed pearl walls with crushed green velvet upholstery. A spiral staircase will lead to the intimate lower ground floor restaurant, and there will also be a private dining room for 12-15 covers.
