Mark Birchall's Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms awarded four AA rosettes

Mark Birchall's Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms in Lancashire has been awarded four AA rosettes, the only new recipient of the accolade to be announced today.

Eight restaurants have been awarded three AA rosettes, including Mere in Charlotte Street, London, run by MasterChef: The Professionals judge Monica Galetti and her husband David.

Moor Hall, in Aughton, received four AA rosettes just four months after achieving its third in September 2017.

Birchall told The Caterer: "We are delighted to be awarded four rosettes by the AA. It's a fantastic achievement for our team and a great start to 2018."

The chef opened Moor Hall in spring 2017 with business partners Andy and Tracey Bell, and was awarded a Michelin star in the 2018 guide.

He opened casual dining restaurant the Barn at the site in October 2017.

Stephen Wilkinson, area manager at AA Hotel & Hospitality Services said: "Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms has achieved so much in a short space of time. This would not have been possible without the careful planning prior to opening.

"Mark's food continues to evolve but the focus has always been on balance and clarity of flavour whilst sourcing the best core ingredients. The team has an impressive kitchen garden which is a key resource for many dishes."

The eight restaurants to be awarded three AA Rosettes are Benedicts, Norwich, Norfolk; the Burlington restaurant, Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire; Carters of Moseley, Birmingham, West Midlands; Jöro restaurant, Sheffield, South Yorkshire; Mere, London; 1851 restaurant at Peckforton Castle, Cheshire; Samuel's at Swinton Park, North Yorkshire; and Whatley Manor Hotel and Spa, Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

Simon Numphud, managing director at AA Hotel & Hospitality Services said: "We are delighted to recognise these hotels and restaurants for achieving such high standards of culinary excellence which continue to demonstrate the growing strength and depth of British cooking across the country. Our congratulations go to all the dedicated teams within these businesses that have truly earned this level of recognition."
