Bluebird Café to open in Television Centre in April

Bluebird Café will open in Television Centre, the former home of the BBC in London's White City, in April.

The sister site to the original Bluebird restaurant in Kings Road, London, will be an all-day drinking and dining destination incorporating a café, bar and all-year-round terrace.

Bluebird Restaurants' executive chef Simon Gregory has created a modern European menu, which will be served from 8am to 11pm daily and feature dishes including ‘nduja crusted yellow fin tuna with grilled onion and green sauce; butter chicken curry with basmati rice and burnt chilli and spiced king prawns with yoghurt and pistachio.

Desserts and classic pastries, both savoury and sweet, will be created by award-winning executive pastry chef, Roger Pizey.

The café's interior has been designed by David d'Almada's Sagrada, with artwork sourced by Fraser Scott set to feature young British artists, as well as designs inspired by Bridget Riley and Celia Birtwell.

Restaurant group D&D London relaunched the original Bluebird restaurant in the Kings Road in London last year after a £2m refurbishment, having been operating for some 20 years.

D&D London's chairman and chief executive Des Gunewardena told The Caterer why the West London site was chosen for expansion last month. He said: "Firstly because of the growing success of Bluebird Chelsea especially after its recent relaunch. And secondly because we think the exciting new development of Television Centre in White City is a great location to start what I hope will become a significant expansion of Bluebird Cafés in the next few years."
