Sustainable Restaurant Association introduces One Planet Plate campaign

The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) is calling on chefs to devise one dish demonstrating ethical sourcing and sustainability to include on menus as part of its One Planet Place initiative.

The campaign aims to collect recipes that to promote ethical eating on its website and direct diners towards participating restaurants through a dynamic map of operators.

SRA chief executive Andrew Stephen said: "We only have one planet and we have to eat more wisely if we're to sustain our growing population. Diners are increasingly aware of the problems in our food system but too often unaware of what sustainable food looks and tastes like when eating out. A One Planet Plate is effectively the chef's sustainable special - his or her edible ethical endorsement."

There are no set criteria for dishes, but the SRA is looking for chefs to address issues such as local sourcing, zero waste, better meat and a low carbon footprint. Participating restaurants will receive a full marketing pack to help them promote One Planet Plate on their menu.
