Martin Morales to launch London's first Peruvian bakery alongside new restaurant

Martin Morales, owner and executive chef of Peruvian restaurant Ceviche, is set to launch London's first Peruvian bakery alongside his latest restaurant opening.

Andina Panaderia and Andinda Picanteria are expected to open on 8 May at neighbouring sites in Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill, London.

The two new ventures will pay homage to the female Andean chefs who have inspired Morales and his team since opening Ceviche.

Head pastry chef Ana Velasquez will lead Andina Panaderia, specialising in slow-ferment baking offering traditional sweet and savoury pastries and breads alongside hot dishes, lunchtime salads and all-day brunch-style dishes, available to eat in or take away.

Barcelona-based interior design firm El Equipo Creative is responsible for the open-plan space, which will feature mustard-yellow seating and oiled oak shelves where potters from both London and Peru can retail their work.

Luca Depalo will be head chef at next door's Andina Picanteria, which is described as an ode to the family-run, roadside restaurants, known as picanterias, that are found across the 11 regions of the Peruvian Andes.

The menu comprises small plates such as the Sivinche, an ancient take on ceviche, made with yellow fin tuna, trout roe and popped kiwicha and a purple corn tamal with choclo corn succotash and sweet kale pesto.

Larger dishes include Olluco potato locro, an Andean-style stew with broad beans and roast pumpkin, and braised adobo pork leg and 80-day aged Hereford sirloin with red pepper and Amarillo chilli escabeche.

The restaurant space will feature an open kitchen, contemporary and mid-century rustic oak chairs and tables, lounge banquettes in green and cherry, and Peruvian contemporary art.

Morales commented: "My team and I have been travelling across the regions of the Andes meeting bakers, cooks, farmers and learning new recipes, techniques which we can't wait to bring to London."

Andina Panaderia and Andinda Picanteria will join Moeales' existing restaurants Ceviche Soho, Andina in Shoreditch, Ceviche Old St and Casita Andina in Soho.
