Spanish seafood tapas bar Gambas will replace Spuntino at Bristol’s Wapping Wharf Cargo development this summer.
The 27-cover Spuntino opened at the retail unit made of shipping containers alongside Woky Ko, Chicken Shed and Box-E Bristol last year. It will close on 6 May to allow the company, headed by Russell Norman and Richard Beatty, to focus on its Spuntino and Polpo sites in London and Brighton and to expand the Spuntino brand into airport sites.
Kieran and Imogen Waite, the husband and wife team behind Bravas on Bristol’s Cotham Hill and Wapping Wharf’s Cargo Cantina, will launch Gambas in June.
The restaurant, named after the Spanish word for shrimps, will offer Spanish tapas, seafood and paella, as well as a retail seafood counter. The interior will be inspired by the Mercado Central in Valencia.
Kieran said: “This spot at Cargo 2 is the perfect location for Gambas as it’s right on the harbourside with a fantastic terrace offering views that you really can’t find anywhere else in Bristol.”
